World’s Fistball Elite head to Llanquihue: IFA Club World Cup kicks off on Thursday

published: October 26, 2026

The countdown is on: In just a few days, the international fistball spotlight will turn to Chile. From October 29 to November 1, twelve teams from three continents will compete for the club world championship titles at the IFA 2026 Club World Cup in Llanquihue. Set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Llanquihue, the event will bring together international powerhouses, former World Cup champions, returning contenders and three teams making their debut on the global club stage.

Final preparations are underway and excitement is building: The countdown to one of the highlights of the international fistball calendar has entered its final stretch in Llanquihue, Chile. Following the previous IFA World Cups and World Tour Finals, the club world championship titles will be contested in a new format in 2026, featuring six men’s and six women’s teams. And the line-up is nothing short of impressive: Together, the twelve clubs have made 57 appearances in the two predecessor competitions, collecting an incredible 20 titles, 26 silver medals and five bronze medals. It is a remarkable record that promises exciting battles for the two world championship titles.

“Llanquihue has impressively demonstrated over the past few years how to organise international fistball events at the highest level,” says IFA President Gastão Englert, looking forward to the upcoming tournament. “The combination of an exceptional venue, a strong fistball tradition and a world-class line-up promises an outstanding event.”

Hosts to Open Both Competitions on Centre Court

The action gets underway on Thursday, October 29, at 9:00 a.m. local time. The opening match will be a special occasion for the hosts: The women’s team of Club Gimnástico Alemán Llanquihue will kick off the competition on Centre Court against Ahlhorner SV, the 2025 European Champions Cup winners. At 10:30 a.m., the men’s opening match will follow, with Llanquihue facing Austrian side FBC LINZ AG Urfahr, who also claimed the European club title in 2025.

It could hardly be a tougher opening challenge for the two Chilean teams. At the same time, it is a unique opportunity to test themselves against two of Europe’s most successful fistball clubs in front of their home crowd. For the international visitors, the opening matches against the spectacular backdrop of Lake Llanquihue promise a memorable start to four days of competition.

Men: Who Will Come Out on Top Against the International Elite?

The race for the men’s title is wide open. With TSV Pfungstadt (Germany) and SG Novo Hamburgo (Brazil), two international powerhouses have qualified for the tournament, each having won two of the six World Tour Finals titles awarded so far. Both teams arrive in excellent form: Pfungstadt claimed another European Champions Cup title just a few weeks ago, while Novo Hamburgo followed up its 2025 South American title by winning the Brazilian championship this year. The two sides will meet on the opening day in what promises to be an early test of their title ambitions. But the competition will be fierce. Austria’s FBC LINZ AG Urfahr also knows what it takes to win on the international stage. The Linz-based club has lifted the World Cup trophy twice. Following its Champions Cup triumph in 2025 and a bronze medal in this year’s European competition, Urfahr will be aiming for another podium finish in Chile.

C.C.A.A. Rosario, silver medallists at the 2025 South American Cup, will meanwhile become the first Argentine men’s team to compete on this stage since 2019. The club has previously reached two World Cup finals and will be looking to make an impact on its return. For South Jersey Fistball Club (USA), which already qualified as North America’s representative for the 2025 World Tour Finals, the tournament offers another opportunity to test itself against the world’s best. Meanwhile, hosts Club Llanquihue will be eager to show that they can make their mark not only as organisers but also on the court.

Women: Three Former World Champions and a Historic Debut

The women’s competition promises just as much excitement. With Ahlhorner SV, TV Jahn Schneverdingen and SOGIPA Porto Alegre, three clubs that have helped shape international women’s club fistball over many years will go head-to-head in Chile. The two German teams know each other particularly well. Ahlhorner SV arrives as the newly crowned European Champions Cup winner, full of confidence following its recent success. But TV Jahn Schneverdingen also boasts an impressive international record, having reached the World Tour Finals championship match in each of its last three appearances. The two German rivals will meet in the round-robin stage on Friday. SOGIPA Porto Alegre will also be determined to challenge for the title. The reigning South American champion has been among the international elite for decades. In nine World Cup appearances, the Brazilian side has claimed two titles. SOGIPA also won the 2022 World Tour Finals and secured bronze medals in the last two editions of the competition.

For C.C.A.A. Rosario, the Club World Cup marks a return to the international stage. The Argentine club’s only previous World Cup appearance came in 2012. Now, after finishing runners-up at the 2025 South American Cup, Rosario will be looking to challenge the tournament favourites. Meanwhile, South Jersey Fistball Club will make history as the first women’s team from the United States to compete in a global IFA club competition. The line-up is completed by hosts Club Llanquihue, whose women’s team will also be making its debut on the international club stage.

Competition Format: Six Matches on the Road to the Final

The new competition format promises plenty of head-to-head battles right from the start. Both the men’s and women’s competitions will begin with a complete round-robin stage, with each team facing all five opponents once. The top four teams in each competition will advance to the semifinals, where the first-placed team will face the fourth-placed side, while second meets third. A total of 30 round-robin matches will be played by Saturday lunchtime.

The decisive knockout stage will then begin on Saturday afternoon: The first women’s semifinal is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. local time, while the men’s semifinals will get underway at 4:30 p.m. Sunday will be all about the medals. Following the placement matches and bronze medal encounters, the women’s gold medal match will take place at 3:00 p.m. local time, before the men’s final at 4:30 p.m. brings four days of world-class fistball to a thrilling conclusion. All matches are played best of 5. All matches of the IFA 2026 Club World Cup will be broadcast live on Fistball.TV, allowing fans around the world to follow the action from Llanquihue.

Over the decades, Club Gimnástico Alemán Llanquihue has established itself as a reliable and passionate organiser of major international fistball events The venue has already hosted national championships, South American and Pan American Championships, as well as several World Championships.

Mit C.C.A.A.

Für C.C.A.A.
