IFA Leadership represented at the SportAccord Forum 2026 in Lausanne

published: October 10, 2026

At the SportAccord Forum 2026, held from 5 to 7 October at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, representatives of international sports federations, the IOC, host cities and other sports organisations gathered under the theme “When the Playbook Changes: Leading Sport in a New Reality” to discuss the future of international sport. The focus was on the challenges of a rapidly changing global sports landscape and on strategies to ensure that sports remain relevant and attractive for both athletes and spectators.

The International Fistball Association (IFA) was represented at the Forum by President Gastão Englert and Secretary General Christoph Oberlehner. For two days, the delegation was further strengthened by IFA Vice President Roger Willen. The Forum provided numerous opportunities for the IFA representatives to engage with international partners and key decision-makers from across the sporting world. During the event, Englert, Oberlehner and Willen also took the opportunity to hold extensive discussions on current and future topics relating to international fistball.

The Forum was officially opened by IOC President Kirsty Coventry, who delivered a strong message to the international sports community. In her address, she emphasised that sport must adapt to a rapidly changing world without losing its fundamental values. She also called on international federations to work together in implementing the IOC’s new “Fit for the Future” strategy, with athletes continuing to remain at the centre of all efforts.

On Sunday, an Extraordinary General Meeting of the International World Games Association (IWGA) took place, attended by Gastão Englert, Christoph Oberlehner and Roger Willen. During the meeting, Thomas Konietzko (Paddle Worldwide) was elected as the new IWGA Vice President. The IFA extends its sincere congratulations on his election. On Monday, the IFA delegation also attended the General Assembly of the Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sport (AIMS).

The SportAccord Forum also provided an excellent platform for meetings with leading figures from the international sports community. Among others, the IFA representatives met with the new IWGA leadership, including President Anna Arzhanova and CEO Constance Terrier, AIMS President Stephan Fox, representatives of United Through Sports, the IOC, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), and numerous representatives of other international sports federations.

A particular highlight was a personal meeting with IOC Honorary President Dr. Thomas Bach. In addition, the IFA held extensive discussions with the IOC Sports Department. During these meetings, the IFA once again reaffirmed its readiness and long-term commitment towards recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Participation in the SportAccord Forum once again underlines the IFA’s active role within the international sports community. The many discussions and contacts with international organisations and sports leaders provide valuable opportunities to further develop fistball globally and to strengthen the sport’s position within the international sporting landscape.

IFA-Führung beim SportAccord Forum 2026 in Lausanne vertreten
