Following the inspiring start of the International World Games Association’s Women’s Leadership Programme (WLP), IFA representative Ines Weber finished her journey and shares her first valuable takeaways from the workshops. “It’s impressive how many immediately actionable insights we gain,” says Weber. “Many things seem simple – but they make a big difference when applied consciously in everyday life.”
1. Leaving an Impact: Which Words Will People Remember?
One of the core questions discussed was:
“What do people say about me when I leave the room – and what do I want them to say?”
Weber emphasizes: “We should intentionally embody the words and qualities we want to be associated with as leaders.” Presence, clarity, and selected characteristics should be communicated purposefully.
2. The 5-Second Rule: Courage Starts with a Countdown
The technique popularized by Mel Robbins helps participants step outside their comfort zone.
5…4…3…2…1 – raise your hand, speak up, take action.
Especially in meetings, this method breaks cycles of self-doubt and encourages more active participation.
3. Interrupting the Inner Critic
“Am I experienced enough?” “Is what I have to say good enough?” – these thoughts often hinder more than they help.
A key learning: It’s not only what we say, but how we say it.
Confidence, clear language, and conscious body language significantly influence how others perceive us.
4. Using Language Positively
Instead of a reflexive “Sorry,” Weber recommends more appreciative phrasing:
“Thank you for your patience.”
It’s a small shift – but one that strengthens professionalism and confidence.
5. Negotiation Skills: Point of No Deal & BATNA
Another major topic was the art of negotiation. Key elements include:
-
Point of No Deal: The moment when you choose to walk away rather than continue conceding.
-
BATNA (Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement): The strongest fallback option you can rely on.
“A strong BATNA provides confidence and negotiation power – whether in budgeting, professional projects, or personal decisions,” Weber explains.
6. Entering Negotiations Prepared: Know Your Tradables
Preparation includes identifying tradables:
-
A list of what you are willing to offer
-
A list of what you want in return
This method helps ensure fair, structured negotiations and prevents continuous concessions or price reductions.
7. Wheel of Life – A Check-In With Yourself
The “Wheel of Life” is a reflection tool that visualizes different areas of life.
For Weber, it was “a valuable reminder to consciously assess where you stand and which areas you want to strengthen.”
8. More Opportunities for Growth
As part of the programme, participants gain access to additional leadership bootcamps – an opportunity that supports ongoing personal development.
“A programme that empowers – and connects”
The learnings highlight the practical and inspiring nature of the Women’s Leadership Programme.
For Ines Weber, the sessions are “a crucial impulse to strengthen women in fistball and equip them with the tools they need for leadership roles.”
The IFA looks forward to sharing more insights from the programme throughout the year – and to continuing the work toward increasing the number of women in decision-making positions in sports.
