Sylvia Schulz and Emlyn Evans will join the International Fistball Association as new continental representatives on the IFA Board of Directors. Their appointments as contact persons for Africa and Oceania have been officially confirmed by the IFA Board. The Pan American Fistball Association will henceforth be represented within the IFA by its new President, Rodrigo Böttger.
There have been several personnel changes within the International Fistball Association (IFA) Board of Directors. With Emlyn Evans (Australia) and Sylvia Schulz (Namibia), two new faces take over the roles of continental representatives for Oceania and Africa respectively. Both appointments were officially confirmed at the most recent meeting. In addition, Rodrigo Böttger (Chile), previously a member of the IFA Board of Directors, has assumed a new role as the newly elected President of the Pan American Fistball Association (PAFA) and will therefore represent the interests of North and South American Fistball within the IFA.
Oceania: Emlyn Evans
For Oceania, Emlyn Evans succeeds New Zealander Blase Dowall, who had represented the region on the IFA Board of Directors for several years. Evans is well connected throughout Oceania and brings international experience both as a player and as a coach. As an athlete, he represented Australia at the 2023 Men’s Fistball World Championships in Mannheim (Germany). He also served as head coach of the Australian women’s national team at the 2024 Women’s World Championships in Montecarlo (Argentina) and as coach of the New Zealand women’s national team at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu (China).
“My own pathway in Fistball only began in 2022, but my passion for the sport and the people behind it is enormous,” Evans explains. As Oceania’s representative, his focus will be on learning from established Fistball nations and transferring that knowledge back to the region. His goals include supporting the continued growth of Fistball in Oceania, strengthening coaching structures, and developing English-language educational resources: “After the difficult years caused by lockdowns, Fistball in Oceania is starting to grow again – and we want to make the most of this moment.”
Africa: Sylvia Schulz
There is also a change in Africa’s representation. Sylvia Schulz takes over the role of continental representative from Anke Baas, who had held the position since 2019. Schulz was recently a member of the Namibian women’s national team, which celebrated a strong return to the World Championship stage in 2024 after an 18-year absence, immediately finishing among the top eight teams at the Women’s World Championships in Argentina.
Schulz was introduced to Fistball at an early age through her family and initially gained experience as a volunteer at the 2023 Men’s Fistball World Championships in Mannheim. “What fascinates me most about Fistball is the strong family spirit – across nations, generations, and performance levels,” says the Namibian. As Africa’s representative, she aims to bring the perspectives of emerging nations into the Board and to support a realistic and sustainable development of the sport.
Pan America: Rodrigo Böttger
There has also been a change in representation for North and South America within the IFA Board of Directors. The Pan American Fistball Association (PAFA) recently elected Rodrigo Andrés Böttger Quiroz (Chile) as the third President in the association’s history. He succeeds Gastão Englert, following his election as President of the International Fistball Association. Seeking to implement best practices in compliance and governance, Englert understands that it is inappropriate to hold both positions simultaneously. With Böttger, an internationally experienced former player, coach, and official assumes the presidency. He is the first Chilean to hold this position.
At the start of 2026, continuity is maintained in the representation of the remaining continents. Franco Giori (Switzerland) continues to serve on the IFA Board of Directors in his role as President of the European Fistball Association, representing Europe. Likewise, Cheng Tsz-man (Hong Kong) remains a member of the IFA Board of Directors as President of the Asia Fistball Association and continental representative for Asia.
IFA President Gastão Englert warmly welcomed the new members: “Close cooperation between the IFA and the continental associations is essential for the continued development of our sport,” Englert emphasized. A recent in-depth exchange of ideas regarding a possible reorganization of the Women’s Fistball World Championship calendar highlighted the importance of considering different regional conditions and stages of development. ‘This makes it even more crucial that all continents have a voice on the IFA Board of Directors. I am very much looking forward to working together. It is essential that we improve without leaving any IFA member behind,’ concluded Englert.”
IFA-Präsidium: Neue kontinentale Vertreter für Afrika und Ozeanien berufen – Böttger neuer PAFA-Präsident
Sylvia Schulz und Emlyn Evans werden als neue kontinentale Vertreter künftig im Präsidium der International Fistball Association mitarbeiten. Ihre Berufung als Ansprechpartner für Afrika und Ozeanien wurde vom IFA-Präsidium offiziell bestätigt. Die Pan-American Fistball Association wird innerhalb der IFA künftig von ihrem neuen Rodrigo Böttger vertreten.
Im Präsidium der International Fistball Association (IFA) gibt es personelle Veränderungen: Mit Emlyn Evans (Australien) und Sylvia Schulz (Namibia) übernehmen zwei neue Gesichter die Rolle der kontinentalen Vertreter für Ozeanien bzw. Afrika im IFA-Präsidium. Beide wurden auf der jüngsten Sitzung offiziell bestätigt. Ebenfalls eine neue Funktion hat das bisherige IFA-Präsidiumsmitglied Rodrigo Böttger aus Chile. Er ist neu gewählter Präsident der Pan-American Fistball Association und wird so künftig die Faustballerinnen und Faustballer aus Nord- und Südamerika vertreten.
Ozeanien: Emyln Evans
Für Ozeanien übernimmt Emlyn Evans die Nachfolge des Neuseeländers Blase Dowall, der die Region über mehrere Jahre hinweg im IFA-Präsidium vertreten hatte. Evans ist innerhalb Ozeaniens hervorragend vernetzt und bringt sowohl Spieler- als auch Trainererfahrung auf internationalem Niveau mit. Als Aktiver nahm er mit der australischen Männer-Nationalmannschaft an der Faustball-Weltmeisterschaft 2023 in Mannheim teil. Zudem war er Cheftrainer des australischen Frauen-Nationalteams bei der Frauen-WM 2024 in Montecarlo (Argentinien) sowie Coach des neuseeländischen Frauen-Nationalteams bei den World Games 2025 in Chengdu (China).
„Mein eigener Weg im Faustball begann erst 2022, aber die Leidenschaft für diesen Sport und die Menschen dahinter ist enorm“, erklärt Evans. Als Vertreter Ozeaniens wolle er vor allem lernen, Wissen aus etablierten Faustballnationen aufnehmen und für seine Region nutzbar machen. Ziel sei es, den Aufschwung des Faustballs in Ozeanien weiter zu stärken, Trainerstrukturen aufzubauen und englischsprachige Ausbildungsressourcen zu schaffen: „Nach den schwierigen Jahren durch die Lockdowns beginnt Faustball in Ozeanien wieder zu wachsen – diesen Moment wollen wir nutzen.“
Afrika: Sylvia Schulz
Auch für Afrika gibt es einen Wechsel: Sylvia Schulz übernimmt das Amt der kontinentalen Vertreterin von Anke Baas, die diese Funktion ebenfalls seit 2019 innehatte. Schulz gehörte zuletzt zum Frauen-Nationalteam Namibias, das 2024 nach 18-jähriger WM-Abstinenz ein starkes Comeback feierte und bei der Weltmeisterschaft in Argentinien direkt den Sprung unter die besten acht Teams schaffte.
Schulz kam über ihre Familie früh mit Faustball in Kontakt und sammelte zunächst Erfahrungen als ehrenamtliche Helferin bei der Männer-WM 2023 in Mannheim. „Was mich am Faustball am meisten fasziniert, ist der starke familiäre Zusammenhalt – über Nationen, Generationen und Leistungsniveaus hinweg“, sagt die Namibianerin. Als Vertreterin Afrikas möchte sie insbesondere die Perspektiven aufstrebender Nationen einbringen und eine realistische, nachhaltige Entwicklung des Sports unterstützen.
Pan-Amerika: Rodrigo Böttger
Auch in Nord- und Südamerika gibt es bei der Vertretung innerhalb des IFA-Präsidiums eine Veränderung. Die Pan American Fistball Association (PAFA) hat jüngst Rodrigo Andrés Böttger Quiroz aus Chile als ihren dritten Präsidenten der Verbandsgeschichte gewählt. Er tritt die Nachfolge von Gastão Englert an, der zum Präsidenten der International Fistball Association gewählt wurde. Englert ist bestrebt, bewährte Verfahren in den Bereichen Compliance und Governance umzusetzen, und hält es daher nicht für angemessen, beide Ämter gleichzeitig auszuüben. Mit Böttger übernimmt ein ausgewiesener Fachmann mit internationaler Spieler-, Trainer- und Funktionärserfahrung die Verantwortung. Er ist der erste Chilene in diesem Amt.
Unverändert bleibt zum Jahresbeginn 2026 die Besetzung der zwei weiteren Kontinente. Franco Giori (Schweiz) gehört dem Präsidium weiterhin in seiner Funktion als Präsident der European Fistball Association an und vertritt damit Europa. Ebenso bleibt Cheng Tsz-man (Hongkong) als Präsident der Asia Fistball Association und kontinentaler Vertreter für Asien Teil des IFA-Präsidiums.
IFA-Präsident Gastão Englert begrüßt die Neuzugänge ausdrücklich: „Die enge Vernetzung zwischen der IFA und den kontinentalen Verbänden ist entscheidend für die Weiterentwicklung unseres Sports“, betont Englert. Ein kürzlich stattgefundener intensiver Gedankenaustausch über eine mögliche Neuordnung des Kalenders der Frauen-Faustball-Weltmeisterschaft hat gezeigt, wie wichtig es ist, unterschiedliche regionale Gegebenheiten und Entwicklungsstadien zu berücksichtigen. „Umso wichtiger ist es, dass alle Kontinente im IFA-Vorstand vertreten sind. Ich freue mich sehr auf die Zusammenarbeit. Es ist unerlässlich, dass wir uns verbessern, ohne dass ein IFA-Mitglied zurückbleibt“, so Englert.
