The International Fistball Association (IFA) made full use of this year’s Annual General Meeting of the International World Games Association (IWGA) in Lausanne to further expand its international network and advance key strategic topics. All 39 member federations were represented at the meeting held at the Olympic Museum – a strong signal of unity within the World Games movement.
The IFA delegation in Lausanne consisted of President Gastao Englert, Vice President Roger Willen and Jörn Verleger. In addition to the official sessions, the focus was on direct exchanges with other international sports federations, the IWGA and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
“This edition from the International World Games Association – IWGA Annual General Meeting was a milestone,” emphasised IFA President Englert. “We had the great pleasure to have all IWGA members present. This situation greatly enhanced a broad exchange of experiences and the validation of strategies for strengthening associations and sports as tools for inclusion and social development.”
During the AGM, a new IWGA Executive Committee was elected. Anna Arzhanova was chosen as President for the 2026–2030 term, succeeding José Perurena, who led the organisation for twelve years and was named Honorary President. The new Executive Committee is completed by Vice-President Jan Fransoo, Treasurer John Liljelund, and members Espen Lund, Nob Rauch, Antonio Pérez Priego and Joachim Thumfart, as well as Athletes’ Committee Chair Sandra Sánchez. Jörn Verleger, the IFA’s candidate for the Executive Committee, unfortunately did not receive the required number of votes. “I would like to congratulate the newly elected IWGA Executive Committee,” said Englert. “It is very important and relevant to have this opportunity to understand the ideas and objectives of the new IWGA board.”
Englert also used the opportunity for direct exchange with the newly elected officials: “It is very gratifying to hear that ‘we are together and want to strengthen ourselves without leaving anyone behind.’” At the same time, he underlined the IFA’s willingness to contribute: “Fistball and the IFA are available and willing to engage and contribute in whatever is necessary and possible whenever the topic is sports.”
Contact with the International Olympic Committee also played a key role. In discussions with representatives of the IOC Winter & Recognised Sports and IF Relations department, the IFA was able to reinforce its strategic objectives.
“The opportunity to be in direct contact with the IOC Winter & Recognised Sports and IF Relations was extremely important, especially when we had new governance in the IFA,” said Englert. Together with Vice President Willen, the IFA reaffirmed its mission and vision of achieving Olympic recognition and received valuable guidance on the next steps.
Another important meeting took place with AIMS President Stephan Fox. “He made himself available to guide us on the initial steps and stages to be followed for advancing Olympic Recognition with the IOC,” Englert explained, describing the exchange as highly valuable.
Overall, the IFA draws a very positive conclusion from its participation in Lausanne. According to President Englert, the AGM once again highlighted the importance of personal exchange and international cooperation for the continued development of fistball – both within the World Games family and with regard to long-term goals such as Olympic recognition.
IFA nutzt die IWGA-Generalversammlung für internationale Beziehungen und strategische Ausrichtung
Die International Fistball Association (IFA) hat die diesjährige Generalversammlung der International World Games Association (IWGA) in Lausanne intensiv genutzt, um ihre internationale Vernetzung weiter auszubauen und zentrale strategische Themen voranzutreiben. Beim Treffen im Olympischen Museum waren alle 39 Mitgliedsverbände vertreten – ein starkes Signal für den Zusammenhalt innerhalb der World-Games-Bewegung.
Die IFA war mit Präsident Gastao Englert, Vizepräsident Roger Willen sowie Jörn Verleger vor Ort vertreten. Neben der Teilnahme an den offiziellen Sitzungen stand vor allem der persönliche Austausch mit internationalen Sportverbänden, der IWGA sowie dem Internationalen Olympischen Komitee (IOC) im Fokus. „Diese Ausgabe der IWGA-Generalversammlung war ein Meilenstein“, betonte IFA-Präsident Englert. „Es war eine große Freude, dass alle Mitgliedsverbände anwesend waren. Das hat einen intensiven Austausch von Erfahrungen ermöglicht und Strategien zur Stärkung unserer Sportarten als Instrumente für Inklusion und gesellschaftliche Entwicklung bestätigt.“
Im Rahmen der Versammlung wurde zudem ein neues IWGA-Exekutivkomitee gewählt. Zur neuen Präsidentin für die Amtsperiode 2026 bis 2030 wurde die Serbin Anna Arzhanova gewählt, die sich mit deutlicher Mehrheit durchsetzen konnte. Sie tritt die Nachfolge von José Perurena an, der die Organisation zwölf Jahre lang geführt hatte und nun zum Ehrenpräsidenten ernannt wurde. Komplettiert wird das Gremium künftig durch den neuen Vizepräsident Jan Fransoo, neuen Schatzmeister John Liljelund sowie den Mitgliedern Espen Lund, Nob Rauch, Antonio Pérez Priego und Joachim Thumfart. Hinzu kommt Athletensprecherin Sandra Sánchez. Jörn Verleger, Kandidat der IFA für das Exekutivkomitee, erreichte bei der Wahl leider nicht die erforderliche Stimmenanzahl. „Ich gratuliere allen gewählten Mitgliedern des Exekutivkomitees sehr herzlich“, sagte IFA-Präsident Englert. „Es ist wichtig und wertvoll, ihre Ideen und Ziele kennenzulernen und gemeinsam an der Weiterentwicklung unserer Sportarten zu arbeiten.“
Englert nutzte die Gelegenheit, um sich direkt mit den neu gewählten Funktionären auszutauschen: „Es ist sehr wichtig, die Ideen und Ziele des neuen IWGA-Vorstands zu verstehen. Besonders erfreulich war für mich die gemeinsame Haltung: Wir wollen uns stärken, ohne jemanden zurückzulassen.“ Gleichzeitig unterstrich er die Bereitschaft der IFA, sich aktiv einzubringen: „Der Faustball und die IFA stehen jederzeit zur Verfügung, um sich einzubringen und einen Beitrag zu leisten.“
Auch der Kontakt zum Internationalen Olympischen Komitee spielte eine zentrale Rolle. In Gesprächen mit Vertreterinnen der IOC-Abteilung für anerkannte Sportarten und internationale Verbände konnte die IFA ihre strategischen Ziele bekräftigen. „Der direkte Austausch war extrem wichtig – insbesondere vor dem Hintergrund der neuen Führungsstruktur innerhalb der IFA“, erklärte Englert. Gemeinsam mit Vizepräsident Willen habe man die Vision der olympischen Anerkennung erneut klar unterstrichen und wertvolle Hinweise für die nächsten Schritte erhalten.
Ein weiterer wichtiger Termin war das Treffen mit AIMS-Präsident Stephan Fox. „Er hat sich Zeit genommen, uns die nächsten Etappen auf dem Weg zur olympischen Anerkennung aufzuzeigen“, so Englert, der die Gespräche als richtungsweisend bezeichnete.
Die Generalversammlung habe, so der Präsident, einmal mehr gezeigt, wie wichtig der persönliche Austausch und die internationale Zusammenarbeit für die Weiterentwicklung des Faustballsports sind – sowohl innerhalb der World-Games-Familie als auch im Hinblick auf langfristige Ziele wie die Anerkennung des Faustballsports durch das IOC.
