Fistball Discipline Confirmed for The World Games 2029

published: September 3, 2026

Fistball has reached another important milestone on the road to The World Games 2029 in Karlsruhe: The International World Games Association (IWGA) has officially confirmed the discipline for the event. As already in 2025 in Chengdu, China, fistball will be represented in the programme as an outdoor discipline.

The confirmation forms part of the final Sports Programme for The World Games 2029, which will take place in Karlsruhe, Germany, from 19 to 29 July 2029. In total, around 4,000 athletes from more than 100 countries are expected to compete across 36 sports and 62 disciplines.

Fistball had already been confirmed as part of the official sports programme in April. The latest decision now provides another important piece of planning certainty for the International Fistball Association, the participating nations and the athletes preparing for Karlsruhe.

For fistball, the return to Karlsruhe will be particularly special: The city already hosted The World Games in 1989, with fistball also part of the programme at that time. Forty years later, the sport will once again return to this historic location.

Further details regarding the competition format, qualification system, participating teams and medal events will be clarified and announced in the near future as preparations for The World Games 2029 continue.
