IOC President Kirsty Coventry opened the IF Forum with a keynote address in which she called on all International Federations (IFs) to work together, in partnership with the IOC, for the betterment of the Olympic family.
Addressing delegates at the IF Forum for the first time as IOC President, President Coventry said: “We all have the same purpose to ensure our sports remain relevant, to create platforms for athletes to realise their hopes and dreams and live those dreams and hopes. We have a lot of turbulent times happening in our world; we are faced with many challenges and obstacles. We can only overcome them if we work together. “We need to strengthen our policies on the protection of athletes. Protecting our principles and values – finding new and innovative ways of strengthening those principles and values. It is not always going to be easy. But just like a family we would always be making decisions for the betterment of our family.”
The IF Forum, held at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, saw sports leaders assemble to address shared challenges and opportunities around the theme of the new global reality in sport. Olympic and non-Olympic sports alike – big and small, new and traditional – discussed paths through global disruption and the work required to remain relevant to today’s participants and audiences.
The meetings on 26 to 29 October 2025 were attended by Secretary General Chris Oberlehner and IFA Executive Director Jörn Verleger. Their schedule included although the AIMS GA on Monday as well as meetings with the IWGA leadership and many federations.
Face-to-face meetings were possible with the new IOC President Kirsty Coventry and the IOC Honorary President Dr. Thomas Bach and a longer meetings with the IOC Sports Department. IFA renewed its willingness for the IOC recognition even knowing that the formal process might not re-opened before the Games in Milano Cortina 2026.
IOC-Präsidentin Coventry ruft beim IF-Forum zur Zusammenarbeit auf
IOC-Präsidentin Kirsty Coventry eröffnete das IF-Forum mit einer Grundsatzrede, in der sie alle internationalen Verbände (IFs) aufforderte, gemeinsam mit dem IOC zum Wohle der olympischen Familie zusammenzuarbeiten.
In ihrer ersten Rede vor den Delegierten des IF-Forums als IOC-Präsidentin sagte Coventry: „Wir alle haben das gleiche Ziel, nämlich sicherzustellen, dass unsere Sportarten relevant bleiben, und Plattformen für Athleten zu schaffen, auf denen sie ihre Hoffnungen und Träume verwirklichen und diese Träume und Hoffnungen leben können. Wir erleben derzeit viele turbulente Zeiten in unserer Welt und stehen vor vielen Herausforderungen und Hindernissen. Wir können diese nur überwinden, wenn wir zusammenarbeiten. Wir müssen unsere Richtlinien zum Schutz der Athleten stärken. Wir müssen unsere Grundsätze und Werte schützen und neue, innovative Wege finden, um diese Grundsätze und Werte zu stärken. Das wird nicht immer einfach sein. Aber genau wie in einer Familie werden wir immer Entscheidungen zum Wohle unserer Familie treffen.“
Beim IF-Forum, das im Olympischen Museum in Lausanne stattfand, kamen die Vertreter der Sportverbände zusammen, um gemeinsame Herausforderungen und Chancen rund um das Thema der neuen globalen Realität im Sport zu diskutieren. Olympische und nicht-olympische Sportarten – große und kleine, neue und traditionelle – diskutierten Wege durch globale Umbrüche und die Arbeit, die erforderlich ist, um für die heutigen Teilnehmer und Zuschauer relevant zu bleiben.
An den Treffen vom 26. bis 29. Oktober 2025 nahmen Generalsekretär Christop Oberlehner und IFA-Exekutivdirektor Jörn Verleger teil. Auf ihrem Programm standen neben der AIMS-Generalversammlung am Montag auch Treffen mit der IWGA-Führung und vielen Verbänden.
Highlight war ein kurzes persönliches Treffen mit der neuen IOC-Präsidentin Kirsty Coventry und dem IOC-Ehrenpräsidenten Dr. Thomas Bach sowie längeren Gesprächen mit der IOC-Sportabteilung. Die IFA bekräftigte ihre Bereitschaft zur Anerkennung durch das IOC, wohl wissend, dass das formelle Verfahren möglicherweise nicht vor den Spielen in Milano Cortina 2026 wieder aufgenommen wird.
