2×2 Fistball – also known as Wowball – is a dynamic, compact, and exciting variation of traditional fistball. Played two against two on a smaller court, it combines speed, creativity, and spectacular rallies with a strong Sport for All spirit.

What is 2x2 Fistball?
Two teams, two players each, one objective: place the ball into the opponent’s court in a way it cannot be returned.
2×2 Fistball follows the basic principles of classic fistball, with adaptations that make the game faster and more inclusive: Only two players – Players may alternate touches, and one player may play the first and third contact
Thanks to its simplified setup, 2×2 Fistball can be played almost anywhere – on grass, artificial turf or indoor surfaces.
A Modern Discipline
The International Fistball Association (IFA) officially introduced 2×2 Fistball in 2021 as a second discipline alongside classic five-a-side fistball.
The goal:
To create a compact, event-oriented and urban format that complements traditional fistball and opens the sport to new target groups – especially young people and inner-city communities.
With official rules and dedicated tournament formats such as the 2×2 Fistball STAR events, the IFA is actively developing this discipline on an international level.

In Europe, 2×2 Fistball is widely known as Wowball. The format emphasizes accessibility, creativity, and fun while maintaining the core values of fistball.
In Germany, Wowball was part of “Die Finals” 2025, a major multi-sport event featuring national championships – alongside classic 5-against-5 fistball. This highlighted Wowball’s role as an urban and modern complement to the traditional game.
